10 Signs That It May Be Time to Replace Your Roof

-
Your Roof is Old: Roofs have a lifespan, typically ranging from 20 to 30 years. If your roof is approaching or has surpassed this age, consider a replacement. In some cases, a shingle may even come to the end of its life around the 16–18-year mark, though the shingle manufacturer says it is a 20 or 30 shingle. This can be the case because our weather is in Oklahoma is very hard on roofs.
-
Shingles Are Starting to Cup, Curl, or Claw: Cupping and curling occur when shingles peel away from the courses below them, while clawing happens when the center lifts.
-
Missing Shingles: Missing shingles compromise your home's integrity, which can cause leaks and interior damage.
-
Hail Damage: If your property has been hit by hail, your roof needs to be checked out for hail damage, which can have a significant effect on your roof, such as cracked shingles, granule loss, or bruised shingles.
-
Interior Leaks and Water Stains: If you notice water stains on your ceiling or walls, it’s a sign of leaks. Address them promptly to prevent further damage that will cost you more money in the long run.
-
Granule Loss: Check your gutters for granule loss. Excessive granule loss in your gutter or at the base of your downspouts indicate that your shingles are deteriorating.
-
Sagging Roof Deck: A sagging or uneven roof deck suggests structural issues or possible rot from water getting in.
-
Energy Bills: If you have noticed an increase in your energy bills, this could possibly be related to having an outdated roof. Upgrading to an energy-efficient roof can save you money.
-
Moss and Algae Growth: While some growth is normal, excessive moss or algae can weaken shingles. Moss and algae will worsen over time and become more noticeable each year, trapping moisture and causing premature shingle aging and granule loss.
-
Worn Flashing: Damaged, rusted, or deteriorated flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights invites leaks.
